5.) IF YOU'RE BITTEN OR SCRATCHED
Any scratch that breaks the skin can cause infection, but a bite or scratch from an animal can be far more serious because of the possibility of rabies.

o Wash the wound thoroughly
o Use soap and water to clean the wound
o Apply a sterile dressing
o Avoid moving the affected limb, if possible
o Seek immediate medical help
o Explain exactly what happened, including whether the animal was wild or a stray.
o Ask the physician about post exposure rabies shots and a tetanus booster.
o Write down as many details as possible
o A brief description of the animal (breed, color, size, collar, etc.)
o The date,time and location of the incident.
o Location of the animal and animal owner, if possible.
o Names, addresses, and telephone numbers of others involved, if any.
o Report all incidents to the proper authority, depending on your location:
o Local animal control agency,
o Local police department, or
oLocal health department.
o The biter animal should be quarantined or tested for rabies to protect you!
o Try to confine or isolate the animal, if you can do so safely.
o This will allow the animal to be quarantined or tested for rabies.
