• "Children are trained to extend justice, kindness and mercy to animals be and considerate in their relations with each other. Character training alone can result in men and women of broader sympathies, more humane, law-abiding more valuable citizens. Humane education is teaching in the schools and community the principles of justice, goodwill and humanity toward all life. The cultivation of kindness to animals is but the starting point towards that larger humanity of every fellow of every race. A generation of people trained in these principles approach difficulties as neighbors and not as enemies."

EDUCATION PROGRAMS

The following presentations are available free of charge to classrooms in Contra Costa County:

Each presentation last approximately one hour, and includes supplemental handouts for the students. Follow-up materials will also be given to the teacher. Through our programs in the schools and materials available for use, we would like to help teachers fulfill Section 44806 of the California Education Code which includes the teaching of kindness toward domestic pets and the humane treatment of living creatures.

TO SCHEDULE A PRESENTATION, PLEASE CALL Tracey Stevens-Martin AT 925-335-8340. If she is not in, please leave a message so she can return your call.

SUGGESTIONS FOR A SUCCESSFUL PRESENTATION

  1. Make an appointment at least 2 to 4 weeks in advance.
  2. Prepare the students to ask specific questions on specific topics. With younger children you may need to define the difference between stories and questions.
  3. Let the speaker know in advance if you would like to emphasize certain ideas or subjects.

OTHER PRESENTATIONS

We will be happy to design a presentation on a specific subject of interest to your classroom. Some examples include: Choosing a Pet and Pet Care, Safety Around Animals-Bite Prevention, Meet an Animal Services Officer, etc.
