Contra Costa Animal Services Pet Emergency Preparedness (PEP)

Emergency Supply & Disaster Plan Checklist

1.  Make a plan:

    - arrange a safe place for your pet(s)

    - family/friends

    - hotel

    - buddy system with neighbors

2.  Prepare a Mobile Pet Disaster Kit.  Include:

    -  Pet emergency supplies (crate/carriers, leash/harness, collar/ID tags, WATER, collapsible water dish, blanket, booties to protect feet, muzzle, poop bags, litter pan/litter, toys, Kongs

    - Medications & Medical Records (including calming meds and emergency vet information)

    - Packaged food, including canned or vacuum packed dry food (7-day supply), can opener, favorite treats

3.  Vaccinations

    - Keep current (boarding facilities require proof of vaccination status)

4.  Licensing & Microchip Identification

    - Dogs and cats can be licensed and microchipped

    - Attach ID tags to collars and crates

    - Keep microchip information current

    - Have laminated photo(s) of your pet(s) available

5.  Get trained

    - Attend CERT / PEP Team Training

    - Attend Pet First Aid and CPR class

6.  Volunteer

    - Make a difference and be prepared!
